-
Applicants must be at least 55 years of age.
-
Applicants, preferably, have lived in the area of Louth for at least the last 5 years.

Applicants must be in need of our accommodation.“Need” may be purely financial, but may also apply to other circumstances such as no longer being able to use the stairs, or to be nearer family. Please note : Any applicant the Trustees, in their opinion, deem to be affluent (i.e. an income of a sufficient level to rent other suitable, but more costly, housing and can still sustain a normal standard of comfortable living) cannot be considered even if they fulfil all other criteria.

How to apply

-
Application forms for those who fulfil the above criteria can be downloaded from this website (see the relevant link below for the PDF format Application Form). For data security reasons completed forms must be posted back to us, they cannot be filled-in online. If there is any doubt about our criteria please do not hesitate to contact us. Please ensure all questions & information requested is comprehensively answered & completed.

-
Once we receive a completed application form we will contact you to acknowledge receipt. Each valid application is then considered by the Trustees as accommodation becomes available. Eligible applicants will be invited to an informal meeting where between 2-4 trustees & the Clerk to the Trustees will be present. Applicants may bring a friend or relative with them to the meeting if they wish.

Allocating an almshouse

-
We receive many applications, often we do not have any vacancies at the time, but when we do; our policy is to offer the residence to the applicant the Trustees evaluate as the most suitable and in greatest need first. A “first come, first served” policy therefore does not apply, this means that some people will have a longer wait than others and new applicants may sometimes be housed sooner than existing applicants.

-
Once a decision has been made to offer accommodation (can be on the day of the meeting), it is then for the applicant to decide whether they wish to accept.

-
All offers are confirmed in writing and a Letter of Appointment is sent, by post, detailing the moving-in date and the monthly maintenance charge. The Letter of Appointment forms the basis of the terms of occupation between the resident and the Trust including house rules and further information. It is important to note that residents are beneficiaries of the Trust and do not hold any legal interest in their accommodation.
