About Us
At a time when there is a severe shortage of affordable rental accommodation, our role as an almshouse charity is now more vital than ever. In some rural areas, almshouses are the only provider of accommodation for those in need.

Orme Almshouses is a charity managed by volunteers (Trustees), people who want to become involved in their local almshouses in order to preserve good quality accommodation for people in need in their area. There is also a certain amount of regulation and administration which has to be handled and this is managed, on a day to day basis, by our member of staff known as The Clerk to the Trustees.

Since 1885 Orme Almshouse Charitable Trust has provided residential accommodation for local, elderly (55 & over) gentlemen in need. We aim to provide safe, secure, affordable housing to the independent gentleman, but as our residents get older more support is often required and we pride ourselves in meeting their needs for as long as we can. Our almshouse community, together with Trustees’ support, provides a supportive environment that fosters independence and a retention of dignity. We believe that by providing affordable housing and a supportive environment, we can help our residents achieve a fulfilling life.

Whilst we are not able to offer personal care; we can advise residents about various services provided by care agencies and related organisations.

We are regulated by the Charity Commission and are also members of the National Almshouse Association.
